story on a blogger - Exposed

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/25/magazine/25internet-t.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1&hp

listening to the sound of talking

"Ok.....now what" the voice whispers

"MMMmmm from Loooonnnng Iiiiland, whereYa from" followed by laughter
The words come out a rapid fire clip. I knew she said something but I could not understand it.

The talking is sound. Loud laughter followed by mumbling, "black" what was said
I am lurking on other people's conversations

A heavily accented voice "whhaatt isdis" It takes time to translate in my head.

I got to be back typing. Hangs up cell phone.

Visual on Maureen's sounds for class assignment

Sitting in church waiting for the celebration service to begin, I hear the door creak open. Many of the parisheners are talking as they enter while their shoes rustle along the carpet and the women's skirts swoosh as the fabric rubs against their slip on their way to a seat. Some quietly sit but coughs in deep voice while a women clears her throat up front. The organist and the rest of the ensemble are practicing and you can hear the instruments being tuned up in the front of the church. Thank goodness the air conditioner is working and you can hear and feel the air being pushed thoughout the room.

The conductor picks up the microphone to annouce the beginning of the service. The drummer leads off at the signal from the conductor, you can see the sticks raise and fall on the drum, click, click, duh, duh, and soon the rest of the ensemble join in with the piano, brass, guitars, and tambourine. The congregation has been invited to sing the opening hymn listed up on the wall near where the minister will give the sermon. Hymn 546 in the the hymnal. This is a hard one and many voices are off key.

Her posting:

Wooden doors being creaked open. men and women voices are heard, all types of shoes are rustling on carpet. There is fabric swooshing around. A person with a deep voice coughs, a woman clears her throat. Light praise and worship music can be heard in the background. Musical instruments are being tuned, trumpet, guitar, clarinet, piano and organ. Air is being pushed through the room. Mic being picked up, Music starting- drums , click click click click, buh duh buh duh duh duh duh duu... piano, brass, guitars, and tambourine join in. Now comes a lot of peoples voices trying to sing on key.

sounds of silence

scape, scape, bang, scape, scape, bang. Gurgle, gurgle, gurgle. slap, slap, slam, slap. Creak, creak, slam. Whoosh, whoosh. Scape, gurgle, slap, creak, slam, whoosh. Slide, scrape, step, slide, scrape, step, creak, slam. gurgle, drip, drop, drip, gurgle, gurgle, gurgle.

not so quiet

the whirl of the machine kicking on with a click, click, click and then when it turns off, again, click, click, click. The wind came quickly and bent the tree while waving the leaves hither and fro, up and down and sideways, shimmering in the sun light. The cool air rushes past me. My ears echo with the sounds almost like a conch shell to my ear as if I am in a tunnel.

Sounds can be annoying

Sometimes people talking becomes noise and I must escape, leave the scene quickly, my system becomes overloaded with input. Sounds without information called communication but when it is cocktail talk it can become too much noise. Or even in a mall or other locations, the sounds of talking can start to feel like noise and it is time for downtime.

Make it a great and quiet day. No horn honking to your friends on the road. I jump. I think there is a REASON for the horn and it is a warning of some kind. I look around feverishly looking for the danger. Hypervigilance kicks in. Fear. When I realize it only you, tooting to a friend in the middle of the cars whizzing by, I am relieved and annoyed, I was distracted from safe driving.

Sounds are a blessing

As I close my eyes and listen, there is a whirling so low but audible as it works that could not be heard earlier with the loud overhead sound goes with the motor and fan blowing hot air.   The sneeze is often and quick. Are there dust mites? Where did that ? There are other whirling machines blowing. The tap, tap, tap of something distracts me from the whirling machine. The taps are inconsistent, not like morse code, but yet steady, sometimes quick and furious, and other times only one or two taps. The edges are echoing the still air back and forth to my ears as if I am under water and the silence keeps me from know where to turn. The whirling is getting louder as it becomes more quiet every where else. Just tap, tap, the sound of breaths going in and out, tap, tap, now the whirling machine comes back to my attention. It is time to come out of this silence.

photo travels

Digital photography has opened up my ability to take lots of pictures without worry about expense of development. I find I am more daring and whimsical about some pictures and willing to try things just to see how they look.

Landscapes and buildings are my favorites. Even in a crowded place, I can make it seem like no one is there - peaceful, serene, and a feeling of melting into the picture or jumping into brigadoon.

First Day of Class

Learning about setting up a blog and setting up a twitter account. Using multiple sources for keeping in contact or building a story. Review the story about the guys creating short videos about "Need Girlfriends". Multiple ways for creative people to get notice. Looks like this is going to be a fun class and learning about options.
